It seems Microsoft is so eager to give Xbox One owners their free game, that it’s coming a few days early. World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap is now available for Xbox Live Gold subscription owners for free.

The Van Helsing series
If anybody is a fan of the famed vampire hunter Van Helsing, it would be the Hungarian studio NeocoreGames; well known for their ‘The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing’ loot-based action RPG series. Also, with its support for up to four players in co-op, the series kept giving plenty of challenges and interesting storylines for players to experience.
Following the success of the first game, the studio put out two sequels to the game over the years; the saga concluding its story in 2015, with the third game’s release. The interesting tidbit, however, is that the first game was also a part of Games With Gold promotion at release.
World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap
The newest game is a bit of an odd one, however, when looking at the past games of NeocoreGames. Instead of the old monster hunting campaigns, the studio opting for a tower defense game with plenty of blood and gore.
Strangely enough, the gameplay and graphics style of the past games’ seem to lend quite well to the new genre; adding even more spells and tools to kill the waves of incoming monsters in many creative and satisfying methods.
After choosing one of the three classes that fit their playing style, that range from Mercenary, Sorceress, and Marksman. Players can build those characters in many different ways, with more than 50 skills per class being available.
Lastly, for players looking to play against a human opponent, the game also features a head to head mode. In this mode, the arriving monsters can be taken control of by a player tasked with going past the defenders.
The Games With Gold promoted free games typically arrive on the 1st of each month; this month seems to be an exception to that tradition. Xbox One owners with Xbox Live Gold memberships can now claim World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap for free through their consoles.
If buying the game outright, it is also available on the Xbox Store and Steam for $19.99; though, note that Deathtrap is having a 75% off sale on Steam right now, marking this as a good time for everyone looking for a good tower defense game.
