It’s the beginning of a month again, and Microsoft is giving away two more games for Xbox Live Gold members. Coming up this time are the games: Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and Monkey Island 2 Special Edition.
This refresh also means that the two previous Games with Gold titles aren’t free anymore to whoever that didn’t claim them. Them being the games: Rayman Origins and World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap from the month of January.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
This colorful indie game by Asteroid Base is a self-published title through the ID@Xbox program. At first glance looking like a generic 2D shoot em’ up, it sports a frantic but fun ship gameplay system.
Players get a multi-room space ship where each of the rooms provides a specific function. For example, having piloting, guns, and shield stations that only activate when a character is actively using the station.
This means that throughout the game, players must juggle the functions of the ship and keep optimal balance while flying. There will be plenty of obstacles to pass and enemies to destroy for keeping players on their toes.
Although the developers geared the game towards a couch co-op experience, it is entirely playable solo using AI bots. But, sadly there is no online option for playing Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, as it only supports local play.
The game is now available for free to all Xbox One owners that hold an Xbox Live Gold subscription; claimable by going to the Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime page in the Microsoft Store or through the console itself.
Monkey Island 2: Special Edition
This age old classic by LucasArts is a favorite among many point-and-click adventure fans. Originally releasing in 1991 and again in 2010 with the HD remake, it’s perfect for nostalgic players to try out.
The developers completely overhauled the audio, visuals, controls, and voice overs for this Special Edition release of Monkey Island 2; even managing to get the original voice actors for re-voicing their lines and additional content.
New players may also be glad to know about the new hint system in the game; these old point-and-click games are notorious for their high difficulty when comparing them to games of the later generations.
Additionally, it features an interesting mechanic where players can switch between the original and HD graphics styles anytime while playing. A great tool for experiencing the game in any way the player may like.
Monkey Island 2: Special Edition is now available for both Xbox 360 and Xbox One Xbox Live Gold members.
