The launch trailer for the Microsoft exclusive Halo Wars 2 releases

The upcoming RTS game set in the Halo Universe is now closer than ever to its release. Microsoft is reminding us of this by releasing a quite stunning cinematic launch trailer for Halo Wars 2.

Blur Studio, the visual effects studio with an impressive history of cinematics, are the creators behind the new trailer. In fact, if the quality of this launch trailer is anything to go by, everyone that is waiting to pick up Halo Wars 2 is in for a treat; as Blur Studio is in charge of creating all of the in-game cutscenes of Halo Wars 2 as well.

Halo Wars 2

The game is set a short time after the ending of Halo 5 (2015). The UNSC Spirit of Fire and its crew is returning from the first game, along with – Captain James Cutter.

The crew is still alive and kicking thanks to the 28 years spent in cryosleep since their last battle. While missing a large portion of the crew thanks to the previous Covenant threat that veteran players will remember facing; the Spirit of Fire has a brand new enemy force to contend with, lead by the Brute – Atriox.

This new Banished faction is a group that splintered off the Covenant forces after the war with the humans ended. The player bumps into the Banished while investigating a distress signal from the Ark, the Forerunner facility from Halo 3.

Obviously, this means that we get to use our real-time strategy skills to try and defeat Atriox before he completes whatever plan that he has concocted, that is surely not for the benefit of humans.

Other than the single-player campaign, the game also has full multiplayer functionality, including the brand new card game mode – Blitz.

If all this sounds enticing enough, Xbox One and Windows 10 players can start their wars on February 21st. However, owners of the Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition get access to the game five days earlier, on February 17th. The Standard Edition comes at $60, with the Ultimate Edition following suit for $80, available through the Microsoft Store.

Lastly, keep in mind that Halo Wars 2 is a part of Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere program; every digital copy of the game will give access to both Xbox One and Windows 10 versions free of charge. Additionally, the program shares all progress and achievements of the game between the platforms for easy swapping.
