It has been almost 20 years since the original Tomb Raider came out; to celebrate the 20th anniversary, developer Crystal Dynamics is giving players a few gifts.
Rise of the Tomb Raider – the latest instalment in the series – came out at the end of last year exclusively for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. A few months later, in January of this year – it was released for the PC.
To celebrate the 20 years of Lara Croft, Square Enix, and Crystal Dynamics are bringing the game to PS4 – with all of the DLC for free, and a free copy of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition if you preorder.
Although the PS4 is getting a bunch of free stuff – that’s because the platform had to wait a year for the game.
But – we aren’t here for PS4. Crystal Dynamics is also giving players 100,000 in-game credits for free, which they can use to purchase ‘Expedition Card Packs.’
To get the free credits, you will have to launch the game anytime between October 11th to October 18th 11:59 Pacific Time. On any platform.
Expedition Cards can be bought with real-life money, or in-game credits, which would make these credits worth some real money. Though ‘Square Enix is giving players free money’ doesn’t sound too apt for a headline.
There are six ‘Expedition Card Packs’ – Bronze, Silver, Gold, Advantage, Challenge, and Wild. In each pack, you get five cards – but their rarity (and thus perks) depend on the pack tier you buy.
The Bronze Pack, for example, is worth 5000 credits while the Gold pack – the most expensive – is 60,000 credits. Silver, Advantage, Challenge and Wild all cost 20,000 credits but give different rewards.
It’s a good way to celebrate the 20th anniversary – there’s a lot of history behind Tomb Raider. Hopefully, the future games would be as successful as Rise of the Tomb Raider was.
