After struggling for almost 5 years, Microsoft finally seems to be back in the game of Mobile Phones. It is a known fact that Microsoft is facing a tough time in smartphone field thanks to strong competition and line of phones from the brands like Apple & Samsung. It seems like Microsoft is all set to again become the key player in the smartphone market and the Surface Phone is the trump card here.
Microsoft’s flagship device Surface Phone is in the news since a long period of time and it is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2017. While there is no official news from Microsoft but, reports and rumours suggest that Surface Phone may feature the yet to launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 and mammoth 8 GB of RAM.
All these rumours started when the Tech Giant recently updated its “Minimum Hardware Requirements” page for Windows 10 Mobile. The company added MSM8998 as a compatible processor with the OS. It should be noted that MSM8998 is the technical name for Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 which is yet to make its debut in the market. However, the company soon removed the reference from the page.
Now, if we talk about Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 it is expected to be made on the 10nm manufacturing process. According to the Forbes report, Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 will be the next generation high-end chipset which will most probably be built by Samsung. The same report also claims that the MSM8998 chipset can support up to 8 GB of RAM thus directing to the point that Surface Phone will have both the Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 and 8 GB of RAM.
Surface Phone has successfully managed to remain in the news for most of the time. The device was earlier in the news when reports came that the company may launch three models of Surface Phone in the market. The report claimed that Microsoft will launch three models targeting the normal consumers, business specific users, and enthusiast. Since there is no confirmation from the Microsoft, it is still unclear as what features would separate these three smartphones.
Microsoft tried to regain its lost crown with the release of Lumia 650 but, we all know that it went south for the company. Even Both Lumia 950 and 950XL series were not able to generate the result which Microsoft must have expected from them.
Microsoft is still working on the developments in Windows 10 mobile which is leading to the delay of the launch of the Surface phone. Whether Microsoft will be the first brand to come with 8GB of RAM or not is still a big question as the smartphone market is developing at a very fast pace. It will all be clear when the Surface Phone will launch in 2017, till then we can just wait.
