The Windows Phone series of smartphones might not be the most bought or used in the world, but that might change with the launch of Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL. These two new offerings from Microsoft that people can buy come with some pretty rad specifications.
There hasn’t been a Windows Phone flagship launch in the past year and a half and the Windows Phone market was getting stagnant. It was high time Microsoft launched some new devices and they did. That too, with a bang. The Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL are their two new flagship devices with some new features and specifications. We will take a look at each of the device one by one in this post.
Microsoft Lumia 950
The Microsoft Lumia 950 is a hexa-core processor phone that is powered by a Snapdragon 808 processor. The phone has an OLED 5.2 inch WQHD display with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels. The Snapdragon 808 processor is backed by 3GB RAM which makes it one of the most powerful Windows Phone devices we have ever seen.
Microsoft has worked on the camera on Lumia 950 and the device has a 20 MP Pureview camera with a triple LED flash. The device is cooled by a Liquid Cooling system! First of its kind and we have never seen a liquid cooled smartphone as the technology was mostly limited to PCs.
Coming to the storage side, the devices have an internal memory of 32 GB and they come with the new USB Type-C connector which is now slowly becoming the standard. The phone has a 3,000 mAh battery and it supports fast charging.
The phone runs on Windows 10 mobile which is a whole new and MAJOR update to the Windows mobile platform. You get features like Continuum that allows you to use your phone as a PC.
Microsoft Lumia 950 XL
The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL is just a bigger and more powerful version of the Lumia 950. The main changes on this phone come when we compare with Lumia 950 is the processor. This phone comes with Snapdragon 810 processor which is an octa-core chip and it has a 5.7 inch Quad HD Amoled Display.
The phone has the same camera as the 950 – the 20 MP rear Pureview shooter with triple LED flash. This device also comes with 32 GB internal storage and a USB Type-C connector. It comes with a 3,300 mAh battery.
Both Lumia 950 & 950 XL comes with Iris Scanner and Supports microSD card of up to 256 GB storage.
Windows 10- Continuum
Let us explain the Continuum feature in detail. You can hook up a keyboard, mouse and a display to your Lumia 950 or 950XL and you can have a full-fledged PC to work upon. This is a really nice feature to have and shows how mobile computing is evolving. This feature is still in its infancy so you really can’t install the PC programs and use it like a proper computer, but it can work as a normal mini computer without a problem.
The Microsoft Lumia 950 & 950 XL will be available from November for $549 and $649 respectively.
