How to fix Headphones not working in Windows 10

You bought your favorite JBL headphones from an online shopping site, you connect it to your PC. You go to and play your favorite song to listen to it on your new headphones. Reason #1 Audio drivers are outdated/not installed

Let’s see how to install/update your audio drivers:

Step 1 Right-click on the sound icon in the taskbar.

Step 2 Left click on the Sounds option, a dialog box will open.

Step 3 In that dialog box, select the “Playback” tab, your device will be listed.

Step 4 Left click on the device and then on the “Properties” option down the right corner.

Step 5 Another dialog box of Speaker properties will open, there will be a “Controller Information” option, click on its “Properties”.

Step 6 Now, click on Change settings, it requires administrator’s permission.

Step 7 Go to the “Drivers” tab and left click on “Update driver…” option.

Step 8 You will be given options to either let the system search for it automatically on the internet or manually locate the driver that you have in your hard disk storage but have not yet been installed.

Step 9 Choose one of the options and simply install the drivers.

Reason #2 Headphone jack not working

If the above step didn’t improve your situation, then another thing that’s possible is that the headphone jack of your system may not be working. You can check it by connecting different headphones with it. If those headphones are working on any other device but not on your system then, it’s the fault of your headphone jack. You have to now get it repaired in order for it to work again.

Reason #3 Faulty headphones

This is probably the most common problem that is faced by people. Many times we have faulty headphones and when we connect it to our system or our smartphone for listening purposes, we either don’t hear any sound or the worst and the more common, one of the sides stop working. The only option you are left with is to use different headphones or get your faulty ones repaired.

Reason #4 Front panel jack detection is not disabled

This is for those who have Realtek HD audio manager installed on their Windows 10 system. Realtek audio drivers are one of the most common audio drivers. Since these are so common, there’s a high possibility that the Front panel jack detection is disabled on your system.

Let’s see how to enable it:

Step 1 Open the Realtek HD Audio Manager.

Step 2 At the right corner will be a yellow icon labeled “Connector settings”, click on it.

Step 3 You will get a dialog box containing two checkboxes with their description, tick the first option i.e. “Disable front panel jack detection”, then click “Ok” and you’re done.

Now, your headphones should be working fine.
