What you’ll need?

Here is a list of things which you need in order to clean the keyboard of your laptop properly:

  • Your Laptop.
  • Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.
  • A microfiber cloth
  • Cotton swabs
  • Compressed air
  • Opening Picks

Once you have all the above pre-requisites, just buckle up and get ready since you are ready to clean your laptop’s keyboard in the best way. Let us now take a look at the Steps to do so. Should we?

Step 0: Turn off your Laptop

The first thing which you need to do before starting cleaning the keyboard is to shut down your Windows Laptop. Now, this is not essential, but we will always recommend you do so since we are using alcohol which might create complications in rare cases, and we don’t know what laptop you are using. So, we will highly recommend you turn off your laptop before starting with the cleaning process. Once you have turned your laptop off, you can go to Step 1 of the cleaning process.

Step 1: Loose dross

If you are someone who likes eating Nachos or any snack for that matter while using your keyboard. Then, the chances are those particles will stick to your keyboard and can even be stuck at the bottom of your key. Well, this is probably the easiest and the crucial step of the cleaning process since it is quite easy and you’ll probably enjoy this step.

So, you will need another person for help. Simply ask your friend or sibling to help you out with the process. Tell them to open the lid of the laptop and hold it upside down in the air. Now, you need to sit down and grab a compressed air machine or a Microfiber cloth. Rub the cloth across your keyboard while blowing it with some of the compressed air. Don’t be too harsh with the cloth, just do it gently and all the dirty dross will probably fall down from the keyboard. Now, once you are done with this step, move on to Step 2.

Step 2: Get rid of Grease & Grime

Now, you have got the dusty dross out of your keyboard for the most part. But what about those oily snacks that had grease with them? You might have seen a shiny grassy keyboard. Or even worse might have noticed that at times the key on your keyboard gets stick due to all of that grease and grime which is present on your keyboard. Well, How to get rid of them?

It is actually quite an easy process. Grab Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, probably the one with 90% alcohol composition. Put some of it on to the Microfiber cloth. However do note that we just need a few drops, don’t go ahead and dip the cloth into the alcohol unless you wanna mess something up. Just damp the cloth a bit and rub it gently on your keyboard. Make sure that you don’t do it too much or with a lot of liquid. The Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol does a fantastic job of clearing all the grease and grime from the keyboard. Now, your keyboard is probably a lot cleaner than what it was before. But if you want to take it to a step further, then you can follow Step 3 of the cleaning process.

Step 3: Lift that key

This process is for those who wanna get rid of all the dross which is stuck under the keys of the keyboard. You will need an Opening Pick for this step. Gently lift up the keys with the help of Opening Pick. Just be sure that you do it gently as it might cause some damage to the keys. Also, if you think that you won’t be able to do this, then it would be better to skip this step of cleaning the keyboard. Once you have picked the keys, simply take a microfiber cloth and clean your keyboard with the same gently. After cleaning the keyboard, put the keys back into their place and you should be good to go.
