The Coalition has announced the February update for Gears of War 4, bringing new content to the game’s multiplayer. The Coalition has modified two previous maps of the series with new twists and visual styles for the update coming to the Xbox One and Windows 10 platforms.
The new maps are only available on the Developer Playlist for Gears of War 4 Season Pass holders for now; with players without the Season Pass getting access at a later date using the game’s rotating map system for free.
First up, the Gears of War 4 map – Impact – is getting a night time variant. The developers have conveniently decided to name it – Impact Dark – but, not just because of the map’s time of day; further adding to the darkness is a dense smoke that is completely covering the map, reducing visibility very effectively.
As the new changes make sniping a nightmare for players anyway, the developers have swapped out many of the long range weapons with ones that players will find more suitable for the up close and personal nature of the map, making the skirmishes more action packed for everyone involved.
A highly popular map from the first Gears of War is returning with a fresh coat of paint, quite literally. Although the original Gears of War’s War Machine map took place in an abandoned train station, the new reimagined version takes place in a brand new COG settlement that’s in mint condition, at least until the fight starts.
Other than the visual changes, the map’s is layout is virtually the same as the original version. Considering the map’s reputation with veteran Gears of War players, this decision is a probably for the best.
Additionally, the Guardian mode is getting a brand new spawning system. Instead of the original spawn swap method, players can spawn near their leader for a much more frantic gameplay style; the leader, needing to be extra careful of where they are positioned to not put their team in jeopardy.
Lastly, the developers teased the arrival of an event for Valentine’s day, starting February 10th inside Gears of War 4. However, sadly, we will have to wait a couple of days to get the full scoop on this special event.
