Double Fine’s Ooblets is arriving for Xbox One and Windows 10 in 2018

For anyone that is looking for a relaxing game consisting of farming, decorating, raising magical creatures, and then battling other creatures – in a turn-based Pokemon battle style system – with your own little critters, look no further as the upcoming Double Fine published video game – Ooblets – ticks all those features and so much more.

Ooblets is arriving as an Xbox Play Anywhere title for the Xbox One and Windows 10. The inclusion has it joining the fast growing list of games that are already in the Microsoft program.

For the uninitiated, the Xbox Play Anywhere program provides full access to both Xbox One and Windows 10 versions of its games when a customer purchases a game for either one of Microsoft’s platforms, along with all their progress and achievements automatically carrying over between the two platforms.

The fact that Double Fine themselves have picked up the game to publish speaks volumes on Ooblets’ potential going forward. Double Fine, the studio of Tim Schafer, known for iconic games such as Brütal Legend, Psychonauts, and its upcoming sequel.

Gameplay information and release date

The game mainly has players farming crops and raising their own little army of Ooblets. These Ooblets can then fight Ooblets of other trainers or even some wild Ooblets.

The game’s turn-based Ooblet combat puts a lot of emphasis on the trainer’s team composition, where the player can pick and choose the kind of Ooblets, which have their own characteristics, they will fight with.

Similar to Stardew Valley, players can decorate their house to their liking and upgrade their farming equipment for faster results. Players with a bunch of excess crops may even buy their own shop to sell their product to the townspeople.

That’s not all, however, as players can also travel to other regions set across the planet of Oob. Giving them the chance to find new biomes, crops, previously unknown Ooblets and plenty of more surprises.

The game is a long while away, however, with the small two person development team aiming for a 2018 release.

Ooblets is launching for Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam, although it’s unclear if the Steam launch will happen alongside the other platforms.
