Method 1: Prevent OneDrive from starting with the system

In this method, we would Prevent OneDrive from starting with the system. Here are the steps which you need to follow in order to do so:

  • First of all, you need to right-click on your taskbar and select the Task Manager option from the context menu. 
  • In the task manager window, you need to select the Startup tab and find the OneDrive in the list. 
  • Once found, right-click on the same and select the Disable option from the list. 
  • That’s it! Now, simply restart your Windows 10 PC and you should be good to go. 

You should now no longer face annoying OneDrive popups on your Windows 10 PC. Anyways, let us now take a look at our second method on the list. Should we?

Method 2: By Hiding OneDrive

We can also fix those annoying OneDrive popups on our Windows PC by simply hiding the OneDrive on our Windows 10 PC. Here are the steps which you need to follow in order to do so:

  • First of all, you need to right-click on the OneDrive icon present on the taskbar.
  • Now, you need to click on the Settings option from the context menu. 
  • Here, under the General tab, you need to uncheck all the options. 
  • Once done, go to the Backup tab and here too, you need to leave the Photos and videos and Screenshot options un-checked.
  • Now, you need to switch to the Account tab and click on the Choose folders option.
  • Here, you need to uncheck all the options under Sync your OneDrive files to this PC. 
  • Once done, click on Apply and Ok.
  • Again, you need to right-click on the OneDrive icon present on the taskbar.
  • Now, you need to click on the Settings option from the context menu. 
  • Go to the Accounts tab and click on the Unlink this PC option from the list. 
  • If you get any OneDrive prompt now, simply close it. 
  • Now, you need to go to your File Explorer and right-click on the OneDrive option. 
  • Select the Properties option from the context menu. 
  • Here, under the General tab, you need to check the Hidden option. 
  • Once done, simply click on the Apply button followed by OK

You should now no longer face annoying OneDrive popups on your Windows 10 PC. However, if you still do, then you can take a look at our third method on the list. 

Method 3: Disable OneDrive completely

In this method, we will be disabling the OneDrive completely on our Windows 10 PC. That being said, here are the steps which you need to follow in order to do so:

  • First of all, you need to press the Windows + R keys altogether on your Windows 10 PC. 
  • Now, you need to type in gpedit.msc in the Run Command window and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.
  • Here, you need to navigate to the OneDrive directory. You can do so by navigating to:

Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > OneDrive.

  • Here, you need to open the Settings
  • Now, you need to click on the Prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage.
  • Here, you need to enable the Prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage option.
  • Once done, simply save the changes and restart your Windows 10 PC. 

You should now no longer face annoying OneDrive popups on your Windows 10 PC. Anyways, let us now take a look at our last method on the list. Should we?

Method 5: Reset OneDrive

If you are someone who wants to use OneDrive on your PC but that is not working out for you. Or maybe you have a used laptop where you wanna reset OneDrive, then this method is for you. Here are the steps which you need to follow in order to reset OneDrive on your Windows 10 PC:

  • First of all, you need to click on the Windows Start Menu and search for Windows Powershell
  • Now, you need to right-click on the first option which says Windows Powershell and select Run as administrator from the context menu.
  • Here, you need to type in the following and hit the Enter key on your keyboard. 

Stop-Process -processname “OneDrive” -ErrorAction SilentlyContinueStart-Process “$env:LOCALAPPDATAMicrosoftOneDriveOneDrive.exe” /reset -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

  • Now, you need to type in the following and hit the Enter key on your keyboard. 

Remove-Item -Path “HKCU:SoftwareMicrosoftOneDrive” -Force -RecurseRemove-Item -Path “$env:LOCALAPPDATAMicrosoftOneDrive” -Force -Recurse

  • Once done, you need to type in the following and hit the Enter key on your keyboard. 

Move-Item -Path “$env:ONEDRIVE” -Destination “$env:ONEDRIVE Backup”

  • Finally, you need to type in the following and hit the Enter key on your keyboard. 

try {Start-Process “$env:SYSTEMROOTSystem32OneDriveSetup.exe”} catch {Start-Process “$env:SYSTEMROOTSysWOW64OneDriveSetup.exe”}

  • Once done, simply restart your Windows 10 PC in order to make changes take place.
