How to Fix Error Code 0xc00000f in Windows 10

Windows operating systems can be quite irritating at times due to various issues. Windows 10 has fixed a lot of things but there are still a few quirks here and there that will leave you annoyed. One such error is the Error Code 0xc00000f which completely bricks your Windows 10 bootup. Let’s take a look at the methods that we will be using to Fix Error Code 0xc00000f.

Reason for Error Code 0xc00000f

The error 0xc00000f is related to a corrupted BCD or Boot Configuration Data of your Windows 10 installation. This can happen because of bad hard drive sectors or even malware on your Windows 10 installation.

If it is something related to your hard disk, it will be wise to take a proper backup of your hard disk data and send your hard disk for RMA. If it is related to malware, then it is obvious that you need a good anti-malware to get rid of malware.

But these can only happy after you fix the error code 0xc00000f. Let’s take a look at a bunch of methods that you can use in order to fix this issue.

Solutions to fix Error 0xc00000f

Solution #1: Repair Your Computer using Installation media

This is the first thing that you should do to get rid of the issue. Get the original installation media that you used to install Windows 10. It can be a USB flash drive or an optical disk. You can easily create an installation media with the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and create the media on your USB drive using the steps given on the page.

After your installation media is created, just turn your PC off, insert your USB and boot from your USB installation media. As the USB boots up, it will automatically fix Boot Configuration Data of your Windows 10. This should fix the error. If you are still facing the error, try Solution 2.

Solution #2: Using bootrec.exe Tool

You can fix your BCD using bootrec.exe as well. This tool is available in Windows 10 by default and you don’t need to download it. You will still need the installation media so read the Solution #1 to see how to make one. Using bootrec.exe we can rebuilt Windows 10’s Boot Configuration Data (BCD) and that will remove the 0xc00000f error.

  • Restart your PC and boot into the installation media.
  • You will be asked to Press Any Key. Follow the wizard and select the language etc.
  • Now you will see a bunch of options. Look for System Recovery Options, select the Command Prompt.
  • Now type bootrec.exe and press ENTER.

  • This action will start building your BCD and after it is done, your PC will be fine.

If for some reason this fails, you need to use Command Prompt to rebuild your BCD. In order to rebuild your BCD, just enter the following commands and press the ENTER key after each line.

bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup

c:

cd boot

–s –h –r

ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old

bootrec /RebuildBcd

Now this should fix your BCD. If it is still not fixed, move on and install your Windows 10 again using the installation media you just created.

This is all you need to do in order to get your PC to a working state again when you face the error code 0xc00000f.
