Best tools to password protect folders & files on Windows 10

Windows 10 is a fresh new update for PC users as they can feel at home again while using a PC. Microsoft tried to combine two platform together with Windows 8 but it went horribly wrong for them as users across the world criticized them for the OS.

Microsoft tried fixing the broken stuff with the Windows 8.1 update but it couldn’t do much to be honest. It was amazing when Microsoft announced Windows 10 and the features. PC users were going to have their desktop enviornment and the beloved start menu back once again. There are many other things that a user can use as a PC user.

Things like game recorder come prebuilt inside Windows 10 so gamers can record and share their gameplay as well. In this post we are going to talk about the Best tools to password protect folders & files on Windows 10.

Best tools to password protect folders & files on Windows 10

LocK-A-FoLdeR – Free

LocK-A-FoLdeR features a minimal and simple to use interface, no fuss. You can set a single master password and a list of folders you want to lock with the password. However, this is not the most secure offering out there since it doesn’t encrypt the folder, but only hide it.

Folder Protector – Free / $24.94

Folder Protector provides a better level of security, as it encrypts the content of the folder. The interface is quite simple, although you can’t pick multiple folders to protect. All you have to do is pick a folder and set a password, Folder Protect will then encrypt the folder and make an EXE to unlock the folder (with the password).

Folder Protector is free, but if you want a higher standard of 256-bit encryption you will need to shell out 24.94$.

Protected Folder – Trial / $19.95/year

Protected Folder can protect multiple folders but can only have one master password for all of them. The interface is simple to understand, all you have to do is add the folders you want to protect by clicking the Add button, you can also simply drag and drop the folders into the program.

Protected Folder has quite a few options, you can decide what you want to do when someone tries to open the folder without the password, you also need to provide the master password to uninstall this software – and if you delete the software manually the files don’t get unlocked.

Protected Folder is free to use for up to 20 times, then you have to pay 19.95$ per year to keep using it.

Folder Lock Lite – Trial / $24.95

Folder Lock Lite not only lets you protect folders and files, but also entire drives. Once again you need to enter a master password and then you can add however many folders, files and drives you want to protect by simply clicking a button or dragging and dropping them into the software.

Folder Lock Lite is free for use for up to 30 days, after which you will have to pay a one-time 24.95$ price to keep using it.

Folder Guard – Trial / $39.95

Folder Guard has tonnes of features that the other options do not, for example, you can have individual passwords for individual folders, instead of one master password. The interface might not be as simple as the other options but having more features justifies it. Folder Guard also lets you assign specific access permissions for the different user accounts on your computer.

Adding folders and files is easy as it is with every utility mentioned before – simply add them or drag and drop them into the software. Folder Guard is available for free as a 30 day trial, after which you will have to pay 39.95$ if you wish to keep using it. However with one purchase you are allowed to install it on two computers, so you are basically buying two copies.

So these were some of the best folder & files lockers that you can use on Windows 10 and all of these are compatible with Windows 10 so you won’t have any problem while using them. If you use any other file locker on Windows 10, do let us know by leaving a comment below.
